Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the biggest festivals in Mumbai, the 10 days are full of enjoyment and celebration. This festival takes place in August or September. Every street in various cities are filled with lots of joy and happiness. A positive spirit spreads throughout the city. Every street or community has its own Ganesha idol. There is also competition between different streets and communities in the city to have the best Ganesha idol and the best decoration. A temporary structure is setup where the statue of Lord Ganesha is placed and honored. This temporary structure is known as ‘pandal’. People of different streets and communities also compete to have the best pandal for their Lord Ganesha. People of every age group contributes equally to make these 10 days more lively and memorable. Beautiful and attractive Ganesha idols are made out of clay and then worshiped for 10 days with lot of enthusiasm and positivity.
It is believed that before starting any new work, Lord Ganesha should be worshiped because he brings good fortune. You will find every pandal and street filled with lot of devotees. Many families in India also bring the Ganesha idol to their homes, they decorate their homes beautifully and the entire family celebrates this wonderful festival with a lot of joy and cheer.
People visit different pandals with their friends and family and enjoy. Different creative activities and competitions are also organized in various pandals for children and also for elders to make the celebration more memorable and to have more fun. I think this is one of the biggest celebrations, everyone eagerly waits for the Ganesh Chaturthi every year.
